Our Senior Program

Western Spirit offer an extensive Senior Program for both men and women, across all levels of experience and capability.

In 2024, our Under 23's and First team compete in FQPL3, and will again enjoy clashes against local rivals Centenary Stormers, UQFC, Acacia Ridge, and the newly promoted Springfield United who compete at this level for the first time.

Our Under 18 Men's program is especially strong this season, built on the foundations of our Under 16 Division One side winning a premiership and Grand Final double.

For 2024 Spirit has re-launched it's Women's Program, our teams will compete in Metro Division 3 and Division 5, and the development work already undertaken has seen the club recognised by Football Australia with a Game Changer Award.

We also have Men's community football covered with a competitive Metro Division 3 side, a more social Metro Division 5 side, as well as our Masters teams for Over 35's and Over 45's.

Spirit announce new Technical Director

Western Spirit are delighted to announce Jacob Hunzel as Technical Director for the 2024 season. Jacob joins Spirit having last season coached UQFC FQPL3 teams. His role in 2024 will focus primarily on assisting our Junior team coaches, and supporting our Senior Programs when required.
We caught up with Jacob over the weekend to talk about his recent coaching experiences and why he chose Western Spirit.
Tell us a little about your coaching career and experience.
"During my coaching career I've managed to work with, and learn from, some very talented and committed people who have achieved so much on and off the pitch. Over the last few years at Taringa Rovers and UQFC I was involved with both the Senior men's and junior set-ups, I learnt a lot and continued to develop. I also had a great opportunity to coach the 23s and First-team football last season at UQ as well as the U14 QPL boys."
Why Western Spirit?
"The reason I decided Spirit was the right place for me was the community. Spirit is my local club and I have been watching games there for the last 3 years and I also have family playing at the club. As seen from the recent AFCON tournament Spirit hosted this club is built on the support from its community and their volunteer work. It is honestly incredible to see how much effort so many people put in. When there is that much passion and commitment from people it's hard to not want to be involved in a club that is trying to take steps forward to improve themselves. "
How do you see your role as a Technical Director, what should our junior coaches and players be expecting this season?
"As Technical Director I will be around the club every week at different teams' training and games and will offer support to both players and coaches. As this is a community club a lot of the coaches will be our amazing parents who have stepped up to take a team, and I will be available to aid them with the support they need to make it a fun season for both themselves and the players. I will also be offering coaching education as well as encouraging, and assisting, them to formalise their FQ coaching education."
Great to have you on board, how's it been so far!
"I am excited to get started as the year starts to kick off, I have been able to watch a bit of the trial process for the men's, women and junior teams from the side lines during pre-season and I am thrilled to see how the teams get on this season."
